Antigang: the next generation : an unexpected return
In 2015, much earlier Lost bullet AND AKAalready reveals Alban Lenoir his talent for martial arts as well as his ability to take and receive blows anti-gang. A film based on the British thriller The Sweeneys, in which the actor lends his role to Niels Cartier, a member of the unit led by Serge Buren (Jean Reno). Unorthodox police officers set out in pursuit of a gang of robbers who don’t hesitate to shoot anything that moves in Paris.

Eight years later and even though it only drew 380,000 spectators in dark halls, this nice surprise has passed into oblivion has the right to a sequel, Antigang: the next generation. Also orchestrated by Benjamin Rocher, this second work benefits from the status ofprotagonist action by Alban Lenoir, who became the main character when his predecessor was centered on the surrogate father played by Jean Reno.

Meeting with Alban Lenoir (AKA), prince of action cinema
The feature film opens with the death of Nadia, Cartier’s companion, during a mission. Eight years later, the ex-cop has left his baseball bat in the locker room and is now working as a driving instructor. His daughter Charlotte-Serge (Cassiopée Mayance) can’t stand him anymore and finds it hard to believe that once upon a time he could have been a daredevil who didn’t back down from any risk. But when Nadia’s killers reappear, the teenager has the opportunity to do so discover the true nature of his father.
A buddy movie between father and daughter
While the first part puts the package on the action, especially on the offer a memorable shootout near the BNF, Antigang: the next generation takes more the form of a buddy movie between a father and his daughter investigating together. If some jokes sound false and the film sometimes goes from humor to emotion in a daring way, the complicity between Alban Lenoir and Cassiopée Mayance works.
After a long installation insisting that Cartier is only a shadow of its former self, finally comes the awakening of this chestnut lover. When the ex-cop and Charlotte-Serge face their first enemies, the film finds the right comedic tone, especially during a confrontation in which Cartier struggles to find his old reflexes and recovers.

Through the turbulent adventures of the tandem, Benjamin Rocher once again proclaims his love for the cinema of Richard Donner (The lethal weapon), John McTiernan (A day in hell) or even Michael Mann (Heat). It is obviously difficult to match these references but the care given to the firefight, to the choreography of the fights just as there is a desire to build a captivating and complementary duo.
Pleasant meetings but too short
Also, if Alban Lenoir is the focus of the film, Benjamin Rocher doesn’t forget the rest of the team Fromanti-gang. In addition to Jean Reno, Stéfi Celma, Jean-Toussaint Bernard, Sébastien Lalanne and Oumar Diaw return, accompanied by new recruit Sofia Essaïdi. And for them too, the pleasure of giving a water hammer, of rubbing against a mountain of muscles with the help of an iron or of throwing oneself from the top of a building is contagious. Too bad their final reunion in the heat of the moment is short-lived.

One aspect of the feature film among others which bears witness to the lower budget compared to the first film, but which Benjamin Rocher tries to compensate for by further developing his gallery of characters. The director really seems to love these hotheads and it’s his attachment to them that drives this goofy but funny action comedy.
