The series The Idolstarring abel (The Weeknd) and Lily-Rose Depp, was canceled by HBO after a single season. The information is from Variety.

‘The Idol’ was one of HBO’s most provocative original shows and we are pleased with the strong response from audiences,” said an HBO spokesperson.

“After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers, have decided not to move forward with a second season. We are grateful to the creators, cast and crew for their incredible work.”

With five episodes, the first season of The Idol was one of the biggest failures of HBO in the last years. In addition to the poor reception by the public and critics, there were several rumors of problems behind the scenes, such as rewriting a large part of the script. In July, The Weeknd (tedros) posted a thank you text on social media.

After the release of “Jocelyn Forever,” fifth and final episode of the series directed by Sam Levinson (euphoria), the singer celebrated on Instagram and posted several behind-the-scenes photos of the cast on the set. In the caption, he wrote:

Final. Grateful to share this moment with you all as the season draws to a close. Continue to push the vision, no matter how bumpy the journey.
