Ursula “Tokyo” Corberó is back
Although she has been active on television since 2002 and in cinema since 2011, only recently has the whole world discovered Úrsula Corberó, aka “Tokyo“, protagonist of the hit Netflix series The Paper House. We currently find her in another Spanish series, Devoured by flamesin which she plays a policewoman, Rose.
Its synopsis does not hide this aspect sulfurous from the new series: “May 2017. The charred remains of Pedro, a police officer, are found in a burnt car in the Foix basin, Barcelona. The discovery quickly arouses public interest, especially when the investigations begin to reveal a web of toxic relationships, lies, violence and sexual scandals involving Pedro and two other police officers: his partner Rosa and her ex-boyfriend. last one, Albert.“
High level casting and true story
In this thriller series eight episodes directed by Jorge Torregrossa and Laura Mañá, Úrsula Corberó joins actors Quim Gutiérrez (most notably seen alongside Virginie Efira in the excellent film Madeleine Collins) who plays Albert, and José Manuel Poga who plays Pedro. Following the discovery of Pedro’s charred body in 2017, a complex investigation will reveal it a sordid story between the three characters, made up of betrayals, sexual scandals, violence, lies…
Rosa’s story in the series Devoured by flames It’s romanticized. But it is explicitly inspired by a true story. Terrible news well known in Spain and nicknamed the case of the “Municipal Police”.. In 2019, Barcelona municipal police officer Rosa Peral was convicted together with her ex-boyfriend and lover Albert López for the murder of her partner, Pedro Rodríguez. A sensational and highly publicized affair, on the one hand for its intimate context, and on the other for its professional context, i.e. the police environment.
With a very careful casting, a writing that tends towards erotic-detective thriller and a careful production, Devoured by flames, available on Netflixit therefore has everything to become the hit of the end of summer.
