Bambi returns to the cinema in live action

Disney continues with its live action remakes of its classic cartoons. Therefore, we learned this in 2020 Bambi he would have the right to a new youth, in the same way as the recent one The little Mermaid. Released in France in 1942, this film marked generations with its touching story of a young fawn facing the challenges of life in the forest. But this new version may differ from the original in some key points…

In fact, director and screenwriter Lindsey Beer intervened, working on the screenplay of this remake (via Collider) this project while he is currently promoting his film Simetierre: the origins of Evil. Initially engaged in writing Bambi, had to leave the project for scheduling reasons. However, shared valuable insights into the direction this new version will take. According to her, the remake will be more suited to our times and could deal with some emblematic scenes differently.

Bambi’s mother’s death censored?

The scene in question, which has traumatized many generations, obviously is the one where Bambi’s mother is killed by hunters. Lindsey Beer believes this scene may not be acceptable in a film aimed at children today. She explains:

I think there’s a whole generation of kids who have never seen the original… I don’t want to spoil the plot, but there’s a treatment of the mother’s death that I think is more sensitive today than in the past.

He adds that the new version might give a little more depth to the story, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original.

Although Bambi’s mother’s death scene is fundamental for the rest of the story it is possible that the studio decides to rework it so as not to offend the sensitivity of young viewers.

At the moment there is no information on the release date of this new live action remake.
