Gen V : the spin-off of The boys
Launch The boys, based on the comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Prime Video has found one of its flagship series. Since its first season (2019), the series has had great success. It must be said that by presenting a universe where superheroes aren’t really heroicbut rather violent and problematic celebritiesit was quite original.
The opportunity for designer Eric Kripke to wear a critical look at America and the star system irreverently. Because the series The boyit is also and above all a program that does everything possible and does not mince words.

After the success of the third season, Prime Video delves into the universe of The boys with the spin-off Gen V. A series that this time sets aside The Protector and the Seven to follow students of Godolkin University. It would then be a teenage drama for the young people? Yes and no. Because if we find certain codes there (like starting with the arrival of a new student at university), the approach remains similar The boys and it might turn your stomach!
A truly trashy series, but not only…
In fact, since the first episodes (three were made available to the press before airing on Prime Video), Gen V set the tone with bloody and trashy sequences possible. Without saying too much, viewers will have the opportunity to see a lot of blood, including severed carotids, torn arms and a body that completely explodes.
Add to this, as in The boysa fun use of genitalia, with a sequence here that delivers a close-up of a peniswith one of the protagonists, capable of shrinking, who clings to it as best she can.

However, Gen V it doesn’t just titillate viewers with its graphic violence. First there is the overarching story which quickly captivates. We follow, after the events of The boys season 3, Maria Moreau, who has just been accepted into Godolkin University, which brings together students with powers. There she meets Emma, her roommate capable of changing size, before joining the group of the best students of the university.
Golden Boy, Andre, Cate and Jordan are the elite and dominate the student rankings, based on popularity. However, they will understand that something is happening inside them this university owned by Vought (talks about a place called the Forest). And that some students may be in danger…
The superheroes of tomorrow
In the subtext of this plot, Gen V also addresses the question of star system, but starting from the bottom. Godolkin is similar to a school of influencers. A factory that directs students along the path depending on the audience that might follow them. A way of doing things a satire of both Instagram starsbut also young actors and actresses constantly reduced to the same role, or even television interventions where everything is scripted.

Added to this are current issues, both with parental pressure and adult responsibility the question of gender. Everything is well executed by characters we quickly become attached tothanks to a spot-on casting. Gen V so it has all the ingredients to achieve success similar to that of The boys.
Gen V it can be discovered on Prime Video from September 29th.
