A man who was briefly married to Britney Spears was indicted Monday on criminal charges after appearing at a pop star’s wedding to boyfriend Sam Asgar.
Jason Alexander Ventura, 40, was acquitted in district court on charges of committing a felony, vandalism and assault.
Alexander remained in prison and appeared in court via video link. The judge gave him $100,000 bail and issued a restraining order requiring him to stay at least 100 meters from Spears for three years.
Alexander Spears was the first husband. In 2004, they were married less than three days before their divorce.
Spears, 40, and Asgar, 28, wed on Thursday at their home in Thousand Oaks, Calif., in front of several dozen guests, including Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Madonna.
Alexander, who was a childhood friend of Spears, was live streaming on Instagram as he approached the house. He appeared in an almost empty but decorated room and told the guards that Spears had invited him.
Officers who responded to the rape call arrested him and he was arrested when they learned he had a warrant for his arrest in another county, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.
Alexander’s bail is being considered at a hearing scheduled for Wednesday. An email requesting comment from its ombudsman, Matthew Terry, was not immediately returned.
Spears was married from 2004 to 2007 to Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children, aged 14 and 15.
She met Asgar in 2016 on the set of a video for his song “Slumber Party”.
Their wedding took place nine months after Spears and Asgar’s engagement, and nearly seven months after Spears was released from the Court Conservatory, which had overseen her life and affairs for over 12 years.
Spears posted about the wedding on her Instagram and Twitter accounts the next day.
“!!! Oh!!! Holy nonsense!!! ᲩᲕᲔᲜ ᲔᲡ ᲨᲔᲕᲫᲔᲚᲘᲗ!!! We got married!!! Ggggeezzzz!!! It was the most spectacular day!!!” Spears said in the posts. With a picture of her and Asgar from the wedding. “The ceremony was a dream and the party even better!!!”
