Ridley Scott in epic mode with Napoleon
At 85 years old, Ridley Scott shows that he is still in excellent shape. Enough to direct big shoots involving big teams. It must be said that the director is used to it. When promoting the film The last duel (2021), stated that he had no particular difficulties as he simply had to do what he had always done. All that remains is to watch it happen one after the other Napoleon (finished and scheduled for release in November) e Gladiator 2 (in production) is impressive.

For these two films, the director will offer epic sequences. We also got to take a look at the battles of Napoleon which promise to be exceptional. This must be said to present it the life of the French emperor, it would have been a shame to skimp on resources. But with Apple SupportRidley Scott was able to impose his vision, even from a point of view the duration of the film. In fact, last August, the director announced that he had a cut of over 4 hours!
2h30 at the cinema, but more than 4 hours on Apple TV+
Of course, we didn’t expect this version to hit theaters. Because despiteOppenheimer proved that it was possible to succeed with a very long film, its three hours remains far from Ridley Scott’s first cut. And even if Martin Scorsese was able to impose himself almost 3h30 of film with The Assassins of the Flower Moon, Napoleon should on his side they last just over 2h30. But according to a recent speech by Ridley Scott, the 4 hour version will also be available.
Near Total film (through GamesRadar), the director said there will be a film version, and a version for the Apple TV+ streaming platform.
I’m working on it. (The edit) It was ten past four this morning. What will happen is that we will screen the theatrical version with Sony first. So the perfect thing is that (the director’s cut) streams and we have four hours and 10 minutes.
Apple’s idea is really interesting. Because even if the audience will definitely want to see Napoleon in theaters for its epic side there will be everything interest in then moving on to the streaming platform to discover it in its entirety. As a reminder, the feature film brought by Joaquin Phoenix will be released in theaters on November 22, 2023. We still don’t know when the long version will be released on Apple TV+.
