Daredevil: bad news for the Marvel series, we’re starting from scratch

Screenwriters and actors go on strike

This is one of the upcoming Marvel series highly anticipated by fans. Daredevil: Born Again it will be both a sequel and reboot of the excellent series Marvel’s Daredevil, which aired for three seasons on Netflix. Marvel Studios, eager to reintegrate the Man Without Fear into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recalls Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) and Vincent D’Onofrio (The Kingpin) to give new life to the Devil of Hell’s kitchen. Since then, a beneficial return to origins for fans of the Marvel/Netflix series Daredevil: Born Again open the door to returns of other heroesnamely Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter).

The filming of Daredevil: Born Again it had started a few months earlier the screenwriters’ strike, then that of Hollywood actors and actresses, does not interrupt production. The show has since been discontinued. However, the production almost managed to do so half of the 18 episodes commissioned by Marvel Studios. Studio executives, including Kevin Feige, took a look at the result. And obviously, it’s a huge disappointment for them since they decided to start everything from scratch.

Daredevil filming cancelled

According to Marvel Studios officials, Daredevil: Born Again it does not work. It should be said that at the end of September Marvel quietly got rid of the main writers of the show: Chris Ord and Matt Corman. Second The Hollywood journalist, the studio also thanked some of the directors attached to the series. The company is therefore currently looking new writers and directors to restart the project. It remains to be seen why Kevin Feige found the result disappointing.

This is perhaps explained by the dark atmosphere currently surrounding Marvel series. In fact, for some time now, the public seems to lose interest in the MCUand even more Disney+ series. Miss Marvel AND Secret invasion audience scores recorded well below expectations. AND She-Hulk: Lawyer I’ve met a few catastrophic reviews. Kevin Feige announced a few weeks ago that he was considering a change in strategy. Reduce quantity to provide quality. Daredevil: Born Again seems to be a victim of this new approach.

The series should be around the corner. Yes, because the foundations of a successful series are needed: Marvel’s Daredevil. Then because 18 episodes is an ambitious format and different from other Marvel series which are limited to 6 or 8 episodes. Second The Hollywood journalistMarvel Studios is trying to do that change the very intention of the show. Chris Ord and Matt Corman would have proposed a legal series that only Daredevil has achieved 4th episode.

Kevin Feige therefore preferred starting things from scratch. The format should therefore potentially change. As well as the show’s guidelines and, of course, the broadcast date.

Creative problems at Marvel

Daredevil: Born Again it’s not the first series to undergo major changes of this kind. Always second The Hollywood journalist complains those who work at Marvel Studios in the television branch a lack of central vision. Differences that lead to professional tensions and the abandonment of some creatives. For example, Jeremy Slater, the creator of Knight of the Moon, resigned upon the arrival of director Mohamed Diab. Jessica Gao who developed She-Hulk: Lawyer he was then thanked by Marvel, first to be called back to supervise post-production. Kyle bradstreet was fired after writing episodes of Secret invasion, Marvel prefers to go in another direction. A source of The Hollywood journalist explains that:

The “fix things after the fact” attitude sometimes makes a director seem unimportant.

Recently, Kevin Feige has been trying to clean up and the very rudder of his drifting ship. Marvel would look to make profound changes to the way they run series. The company is considering hiring full-time TV showrunners and directors. Likewise, the company will now reorganize its development process. Showrunners will write pilots and show bibles. The time when Marvel was making an entire series, from She-Hulk has Secret invasionthen I looked at what worked and what didn’t, it’s over.
