Rules to be respected during the actors’ and actresses’ strike

After five months of strike, Hollywood screenwriters have reached an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). It’s been almost a month since the movement ended. But what about Actors and actresses go on strikewe are still far from the goal.

The union SAG-AFTRA has not yet managed to reach an agreement with the film studios regarding, in particular, the increase in salaries. An important element is the issue of streaming services and the fact that actors receive almost nothing depending on the number of views of the programs.

A hundred days they have passed and the strike continues. There should be no developments in the next few days and therefore for an important event in the United States: Halloween. On October 31st, like everyone else, actors and actresses may want to dress up. But then there would be risk of opposing the strike.

Costumes to avoid during Halloween

In fact, unionized actors and actresses don’t have to under no circumstances promote to work during the strike. They will therefore not be able to be present at a preview or do an interview. Except that dressing up, for example, as Julius Robert Oppenheimer would be equivalent to promoting Christopher Nolan’s film. Same for Barbie or a superhero from the Marvel universe. Because even if Iron Man’s origin comes from the comics, he is one today too identified with cinema.

SAG-AFTRA then published (via Expiration) a guide to explain this and to “ensure members do not inadvertently break strike rules“. In it, it is advisable to opt for very general costumes such as ghosts or zombiesand above all don’t post photos of “costumes inspired by identifiable content“

The actor Ryan Reynolds for his part, he had fun on X (formerly Twitter) about these restrictions, writing ironically: “I can’t wait to yell “scab” at my 8 year old daughter all night. She’s not unionized, but she has to learn.“
