James Bond: good (and bad) news

Something new for James Bond

November 10, 2023 will be an important day for the 007 franchise. Indeed, 60 years later James Bond vs Doctor Nothe first feature film of the spy saga based on the literary work of Ian Fleming, the MI6 agent universe will be derived in another audiovisual format: 007: The road to a million. A reality show produced by Amazon Studios and the historic James Bond film producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

In view of the diffusion 007: The road to a million, Barbara Broccoli spoke in the columns of The Guardian and I took stock of the progress the next feature film. Two years after the release of Death can wait, Daniel Craig has not yet announced any replacements and no information has been leaked that he has written a script. The manufacturer brought two new features. Let’s start with the “bad” one.

“Still a lot of work”

We can sigh with disappointment, the 26th 007 film isn’t for tomorrow. Barbara Broccoli has in fact declared that before the character was “reinvent” For the next work, the road will be long. A work which, according to his words, has not even begun yet. A length which is the consequence of the revolution of the Craig erawhich now needs to be followed up.

Daniel allowed us to tap into the emotional dimension of the character, and the world was ready for it. I think these films reflect their times, and so there’s still a lot of reinvention work that we haven’t started yet.

Bad news that is only half a surprise. You have to build a completely new cycle for several films, and then write for a long time, a 007 film being a blockbuster spanning several years. And also write for an interpreter who will be able to embody this writing. For the moment no actor is announced in the role… Finally, if so far the agenda of 007 on screens has only concerned the release of feature films, with the inevitable diversion of the universe to other formats, the planning of the production and distribution of “a James Bond film will have to do accounts with those of other projects… Which, however, brings us to the excellent news.

The James Bond films will remain in theaters

When asked about the possibility of seeing other Bond spin-offs in television format soon, Barbara Broccoli responded frankly.

Our goal is to make films. (…) We make James Bond films for the big cinema screen and everything about a James Bond film can be seen by audiences around the world in that format. So we didn’t want to do TV.

We will therefore have to be very, very patient. But this patience will be well rewarded by the discovery of the new James Bond film on the big screens. A Good news for the famous character and his millions of fans.
