Prequel series not only delves deeper into Stan Uris’ family trauma, but also reminds us of the tragic fate that awaits Mike Hanlon’s father
The second episode of It: Welcome to Derry confirmed a theory that makes the story of the original “Clube dos Otários” even more tragic. The prequel series, which takes place decades before the films, has officially revealed the connection between one of the first episode’s victims and one of the group’s most tormented members.

After the massacre at the cinema that ended episode 1, the second chapter confirmed what many fans suspected after seeing an Easter egg in the school locker (“Teddy Urine sucks balls”): the young man Teddykilled by the bat demon (Pennywise), has the surname Uris. That makes him the uncle of Stan Uristhe member of the Suckers Club who, in the films, tragically dies in the bathtub as an adult.
This revelation is a significant change from the books, but it fits perfectly into the continuity of the films. Andy Muschiettiproviding a context that has always been missing from the story of Stan. In the original novel by Stephen King, Stan is one of the least developed characters, and his suicide as an adult, for fear of facing Pennywise again, it always felt the least emotionally impactful.
Now, the series establishes deep generational trauma. THE Stan The one we met in the movies wasn’t just an anxious kid; he was the nephew of a young man who was brutally murdered by an evil entity in Derry. Even if the family never told him the supernatural details, the shadow of this tragedy helps explain why the fear of Stan it was so profound and why he chose death on his own terms rather than face the same fate as his uncle.
Beyond family trauma Uristhe series is also making the story of Mike Hanlon retroactively sadder. By focusing on his father’s youth, Mike, Will Hanlonthe prequel reminds us of the fate that awaits. As established in the 2017 and 2019 films, the parents of Mike die in a fire years later (also the work of Pennywise). Knowing that characters like Teddy and Willeven if they survive the events of the series, they are doomed to terrible fates, makes the journey of the original Clube dos Otários even darker and more inevitable.
