It turns out that prolonging life and youth is not so difficult! Scientists have found that five simple habits will help do this.

About the rules to follow, says a study conducted by specialists from Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, the results of which were published in the medical journal BMJ.

The scientists analyzed 34 years of data on 73,000 women and 28 years of information on 38,000 men. Thanks to this, they established which habits can be considered the most useful.

Maintain a healthy weight

It would seem that nothing new! But finally, experts have explained what is behind the term “healthy weight” – it is a body mass index between 18.5 and 24.9. Do you want to know yours? Use this calculator here!

Regular physical activity

You’ve probably heard of this rule too. But everyone means something different by that: some experts talk about the mandatory 10,000 steps, others about daily cardio. According to Harvard experts, everything is much simpler: to prolong life, you need to exercise 30 minutes a day, the load should vary from moderate to high.

balanced diet

It should be on the AHEI index, which is high in vegetables, whole fruits, whole grains, and nuts, and low in sugary drinks, red meat, trans fats, and alcohol.

Speaking of alcohol!

Women should drink no more than one serving per day, i.e. one glass of wine or beer. And, of course, the “dose” doesn’t add up: don’t think that every Sunday you can get by on your own with a bottle of prosecco if you live a sober life from Monday to Saturday.

How much alcohol do you drink at a time?

A glass

After

Compliance with all these rules, according to scientists, allows women after 50 to live an average of 34 years without diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancers, which are the main cause of death. But those who do not respect them will receive only 24 years without these diseases. The difference is obvious – it’s exactly 10 years.

attendance

Another study published in the journal International Psychogeriatrics found that there are personality traits that contribute to longevity. The experts selected 29 people aged between 90 and 100 and asked them to complete questionnaires allowing them to judge the personal qualities of the respondents.

It turned out that the subjects are united by one characteristic: they are all workers. Even in their centenary, these people continue to be active. Study author Anna Selco says it speaks to the attitude, “It’s my life, and I’m not going to give it up.” Great currency, right?
