“Green light, you can now run and stop…”
Netflix has officially greenlit a second season of the hit Korean series ‘The Squid Game’ with a video and message posted on social media.
A new teaser video features Young-hee, the giant killer robot doll that was known in the season opener, as the number 2 flashes in her eye. All this while the recognizable melody that sounded in that first test is heard in the background.
A message from the writer, director, producer and creator of ‘The Squid Game’, Hwang Dong-hyuk, accompanied the clip. Said message details how it took 12 years to make the series, but it only took 12 days for the Korean series to become the most popular series on Netflix. The post then teased the return of some familiar characters, including Seong Gi-hun and The Leader.
The statement said “Gi-Hun is back. The Leader is back. Season 2 is coming up. The man in the suit with the ddakji (the blue and red origami game) might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young’s boyfriend.” -hee, named Cheoul-su.”
Of the 456 competitors in the first season, Gi-Hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) was the only survivor, so it was likely that his character would return.

The man with the ddakji refers to Gong Yoo, an icon in Korea who is most recognizable to international audiences as the star of ‘Train To Busan’.
Gong’s cameo in the series was a highlight for fans, and with the new teaser message, it looks like his character may return to recruit more people for the battle of wits to the death.
Also, if Young-hee is someone to leave behind, her boyfriend Seoul-su will be a scary addition to the games.
Also from the official accounts, videos have continued to be shared given the expectation that this series caused at the time since its premiere.
“Our mood all day now that ‘The Squid Game’ has been officially revamped!“
As far as we know, the filming of the new season of ‘The Squid Game’ has not yet started, so the premiere date still seems a long way off.
Season 1 of the series is available on Netflix.
