World War Z: Brad Pitt faces zombies
The film World War Z, released in 2013, made an impact with its unique take on the zombie apocalypse. Directed by Marc Forster and based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Max Brooks, the film starred Brad Pitt as a former United Nations employee who travels the world in search of a cure for a massive zombie pandemic. Despite the impressive action scenes (we still remember the sequence in Jerusalem) and the resounding success at the box office, it grossed more 540 million dollars worldwidethe long-awaited sequel never saw the light of day.
The first mention of a sequel dates back to October 2013, a few months after the film’s release. Juan Antonio Bayona was initially announced as director, but ultimately abandoned the project. In August 2016, Brad Pitt’s longtime collaborator David Fincher was announced to direct. However, despite several announcements about filming dates, the project was constantly postponed due to various commitments on the part of the cast and director.
In 2019, Paramount definitively buried the project, for budget reasons (even though Fincher had signed for a budget significantly lower than that of the first).
