Victoria: the birth of the new Virginie Efira
After her career as a television presenter, Virginie Efira began her career as an actress in the mid-2000s. She mainly acted in light comedies (we particularly remember her performance in 20 years later next to Pierre Niney). But in 2016, involves a radical changethanks to two films: She by Paul Verhoeven (in which she plays a small role, but which will allow her, five years later, to obtain the main role of Blessed) and especially Victory by Justine Triet (who would win the Palme d’Or seven years later with Anatomy of a fall).
In Victory, Virginie plays a lawyer on the verge of implosion. A complex and captivating character, which projects her into another sphere, and which allows her to obtain a first nomination for the César. After her, Vittoria moves towards much more authoritarian choices, taking on important roles. We can especially mention An impossible love, Goodbye idiots, See Paris again (for which she won the César for best actress), Other people’s children or more recently Love and forests.
A decisive meeting
As he confided to our microphone at the time of the film’s release Madeleine Collinsmeeting Justine Triet on the set of Victory it changed everything for Virginie Efira. In fact, he confided that this meeting was “decisive”, as well as being “a true revelation”:
I felt that I could no longer do things as before, neither in the choices nor in the way of working (…) It changed something in an intimate way. And the nice thing is that the proposals I have been able to receive have also changed.
For our colleagues at Marie Clairehe confided that he had received it afterwards Victorymuch more diverse roles, proof that directors considered her differently than “girl next door” roles:
Before, I was always a sweet, nice and slightly funny girl – not a femme fatale, really! – which we would have fun with, and after all why not, it’s still cool to play Drew Barrymore for a living! But since then Victory by Justine Triet, they offer me much crazier roles: that’s why it’s nice to grow old.
