Friends: Matthew Perry’s beautiful gesture
It is with immense sadness that we learned, on October 28, 2023, of the death of actor Matthew Perry, at the age of 54. For many of us he will forever remain the sarcastic Chandler Bing from the cult series Friends. A role that he held for ten years and which left its mark on generations of spectators. Since the announcement of his death, tributes have poured in, both from fans around the world and from his friends.
Among the multitude of homages, that of John Stamos, protagonist of another cult series (The house party), takes on a very special dimension for fans of Friends. In fact, like many other stars over the seasons, John Stamos made a cameo in the series. More specifically, he appears in episode 22 of season 9, The one who needed a donor.
He plays Zack, a work colleague of Chandler’s, whom the latter invites to dinner. But the evening takes an awkward turn when Chandler and Monica start asking him very intimate questions, because they’re looking for a sperm donor and Zack seems to be the perfect candidate (except he’s not completely unaware of it).
A failed cameo
As with all guest star appearances in the series Friends, the surprise effect for the audience present on set had to be total. Therefore, the appearance of John Stamos should have triggered screams and applause when he appeared on the doorstep of Chandler and Monica’s apartment (as in the case of Brad Pitt). But that was absolutely not the case.and when he walked through the door, an awkward silence filled the studio (and no screaming was added in post-production).
In a tribute to Matthew Perry on his Instagram account, John Stamos then remembered Matthew Perry’s beautiful gesture:
I was ready to go back to my dressing room and leave this job, when Matt approached the studio audience and asked for applause, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for John Stamos! You probably didn’t recognize him.” . because he is much cuter in real life than on TV! “I will not forget this moment and the world will never forget you.
