The Three Musketeers Milady: towards the light?
The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan released last April was an appetizer before the second part, The Three Musketeers: Milady expected in theaters on December 13th. In the first film, we discovered the arrival of Charles D’Artagnan (played by François Civil) in the musketeer corps, as well as the beginning of the civil war between Protestants and Catholics. The mysterious Milady (played by Eva Green) was obviously there to serve Cardinal Richelieu and destroy the Musketeers’ plans.
If the first film was well received by the public (more than three million spectators at the cinema), many of them regretted the very dark colorimetry of the feature film, especially in the action scenes.
These audience complaints were heard by the team behind the films The Three Musketeers starting from the second part Miladyit will be clearer.
“We took viewer feedback into account”
In the new issue of the magazine Before (available Wednesday 29 November), director Martin Bourboulon stated that the colorimetry of the second film was different, and that had taken into account viewer feedback. However, he wanted to clarify that this difference in tone was intrinsic to the story. He explained:
D’Artagnan focuses on the hero’s journey. We follow his arrival in Paris, his integration into the musketeer corps, and we move from the Hôtel de Tréville to the corridors of Versailles … Milady’s scenario is, on the contrary, more visual and plays on numerous exteriors. There is the siege of La Rochelle, but also numerous scenes by the sea, having said that I admit that we took into account the feedback from the spectators. We chose to offer brighter, clearer and more brilliant colorimetry following reviews of the first film. We wanted to play more on tackles.
The Three Musketeers: Milady will pick up a few minutes after the events that happened at the end of the first film. We will discover D’Artagnan when he is taken prisoner by the henchmen of a mysterious enemy. In this new film he will go in search of Constance Bonacieux and her path will cross that of Milady. The latter will reveal her flaws, and above all we will discover why she is thirsty for revenge…
