House of the Dragon season 2: impatience grows
The task was not easy and yet House of the Dragon he faced the challenge brilliantly. As a prequel to game of Thrones, this series had the heavy responsibility of succeeding one of the most famous television sagas in history. Set centuries before the events of Westeros that fans know well, House of the Dragon explores the tumultuous history of House Targaryendelving into the political intrigues and power battles that defined the era.
The first season took place over several years and featured the end of the reign of King Viserys I, who chose his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir. But remarrying after the death of his wife with Alicent Hightower (once a friend of Rhaenyra), things became complicated as her son Aegon finally (and illegitimately) ascended the Iron Throne, in place of his older sister, after manipulation by his mother. At the end of the season, two clans were emerging : that of the greens, led by Alicent, and that of the blacks, led by Rhaenyra (and her husband Daemon).
Season 2 of House of the Dragonexpected next summer, it will therefore focus on the first battles of this terrible war of succession called “The Dance of the Dragons” which will lead to the fall of the Targaryen dynasty (and the disappearance of the last dragons).
George RR Martin warns fans
As for game of Thronesthis prequel series is based on the work of author george rr martin as it is the adaptation of the two volumes of Fire and bloodpublished in 2018.
And the author is very involved in the production of the episodes, as he was recently able to visit the filming sets House of the Dragonbut also watch a preview of the first two episodes, as he confided to his parents personal blog. He warned fans: These first few episodes are dark and might bring a few tears:
The highlight of the trip, however, was undoubtedly the exclusive preview Ryan gave me of the first two episodes of the second season of “HOUSE OF THE DRAGON.” (Unfinished versions, of course). Of course, I’m not very objective when it comes to talking about anything based on my work… but I have to say that I found these two episodes to be nothing short of excellent. (And they’re not even finished yet.) They are dark, very dark. They might make you cry. (I didn’t cry, but a friend of mine did). Powerful, emotional, heartbreaking. Just my kind of thing. (What can I say? I grew up with Shakespeare and especially love his tragedies and historical works).
The first episode was said to be the one where Rhaenyra decided to avenge her son’s death by having one of Alicent’s children killed. If so, we will better understand George RR Martin’s words.
I can’t wait for next summer to return to Westeros!
