Kate Bush breaks UK records as ‘The Running Up That Hill’

Kate Bush has competed on the UK charts like no other artist since “Running Up That Hill” (Through Fish People) completed its coronation 37 years after its release.

The veteran English singer’s 1985 hit went up 2-1, using her in the fourth season of the hit Netflix series. Weird stuff.

“I’m amazed at the magnitude of love and support the music receives, and it all happens so fast, as if driven by some kind of elemental force,” Bush wrote on his official website.

“I must admit that this is all very disturbing. Thank you so much for making the number one song so suddenly.”

The I love dogs The track boasts the biggest gap between number 1 singles in official chart history, 44 years after its 1978 leaders Wuthering Heights and Running Up That Hill topped the charts as of this week on June 17.

The previous record holder was Tom Jones and the 42-year gap between “Green Green Grass of Home” and the (Barry) Islands on the charity single Stream.

Bush also holds the record for the oldest single to reach number one on the official UK charts, surpassing Wham’s seasonal favorite Last Christmas, which turned 36 at the top in late 2021.

Additionally, Bush is becoming the oldest female artist to feature on the UK Official Singles Chart, at 63 years and 11 months. With this achievement, she stands in the way of Cher, who was 52 years old when Believe was researched in 1998.

“It was fantastic to see Kate Bush climb to the top of the official singles chart, ‘Running Up That Hill,’ and to see her break so many records in the business,” said Martin Talbot, CEO of OCC. “The fact that a new generation of music lovers has taken her classic theme seriously really strengthens Kate as the greatest of all time, if at all.”

Elsewhere, “Running Up That Hill” closes the ARIA singles chart for the second week in a row, climbing in the US to 8-4 Billboard Hot 100 for a new career peak.
