“Netflix exists because of me”: Kevin Spacey takes on Netflix in new video

Kevin “Frank Underwood” Spacey returns

It’s a strange tradition, and it becomes more and more so every year. Since 2018, actor Kevin Spacey has appeared his role as Frank Underwood in a Christmas video, to discuss different topics. Taking up the style and accent of the famous character from the series House of cardsIt was this year against Tucker Carlson that the actor (or Frank Underwood, depending on how much you accept this strange proposition) spoke out.

It should be noted that with the 2024 US presidential election, the return of this fictional politician and president comes at the right time. As for the return of the actor, banned from Hollywood and in general from the global film industry after accusations of sexual assault in 2018, he took the opportunity to slip a contrast on Netflix. A cutting observation, which can be attributed as much to the character as to Kevin Spacey himself.

“I put them on the map”

Hold a grudge, Kevin Spacey? No doubt… In any case this is what emerges in the exchange with Tucker Carlson. The presenter and editorialist, in fact, invites him to intervene its influence on the existence of Netflix, recalling that the famous opening “tudum” of the platform derives from the “double ring shot” which is Frank Underwood’s signature. Kevin Spacey/Frank Underwood then states:

It is bizarre that they publicly cut ties with me, based on simple accusations, accusations that today turned out to be false. Because I don’t think there’s really a demand… Netflix exists because of me. I put them on the map and they tried to bury me.

Without ever abandoning his character, adopting the particular, corny and ferocious rhetoric of politicians, Kevin Spacey here clearly addresses a criticism of the streaming platformwhy House of cards it was an emblematic and unifying program. When asked when the actor will return to work and what role he sees himself playing, Kevin Spacey responds:

I will accept any role the audience wants to see me play.

It now remains to be seen whether the public will want to see it on screens again…
