The Circle of Snow is available on Netflix
Presented at the last Venice Film Festival, and Spain’s candidate for the Oscars, The snow circle was one of the most anticipated cinematic events of the year 2024 on Netflix.
Directed by JA Bayona (to whom we owe in particular The impossible), the feature film returns the true story of the plane crash of a Uruguayan rugby team in the Andes in October 1972. The film poignantly depicts the surviving passengers’ struggle for survival, faced with extreme conditions and harrowing moral choices. This true story had already been brought to the cinema in 1993 by Frank Marshall in the film The survivorswith Ethan Hawke in the cast.
Just arrived on Netflix this January 4th, The snow circle has established itself at the top of the most viewed films on the platform. It must be said that viewers are passionate about true stories and survival films.
“Brutal”,”a slap in the face”,”horrible”
As he did for The impossible, JA Bayona does not spare viewers the shock of the catastrophe. In the first film it was the tsunami that hit hard the members of a family who were spending holidays in Thailand, with an extraordinarily realistic reconstruction. In The snow circleit is the crash of the small plane that was supposed to land in Santiago de Chile that is depicted with frontal brutality, leaving viewers shocked by the images.
This introduction did not fail to provoke a reaction from Netflix subscribers, which left them stunned. The rest of the film, a truly chilling survival film, in which the survivors must make difficult decisions to survive, also had a great impact on viewers. These reactions are reminiscent of those when the war film was put online In the West there is nothing new in 2022.
