After the end of Game of Thrones on television, the franchise received only one derivative, titled House of the Dragon, but there are others in development
After the end of game of Thronesseries of HBO based on the books of The Chronicles of ice and Firein George R. R. Martinthe franchise has gained a derivative to date: The House of the Dragonbut there are others in development, such as Nine Voyageswhich had a big change.
In a publication made in blog from him, Martin updated fans about his upcoming projects with the American television channel. “It turns out that the HBO and I have our own animation projects, set in the world of The Chronicles of ice and Fire,” he stated. “None of them have been given the green light yet, but I think we’re close to taking the next step with some of them.”
The writer then explained how the last round of development for new television series happened “a few years ago,” with “four ideas for animated shows,” although half of those ideas were scrapped. “Writers’ rooms and summit meetings, outlines and scripts were followed in due course… but unfortunately, two of the original projects were later shelved.”
Then, George R. R. Martin commented how Nine Voyages, originally announced as live-action, will be animated, a decision he described as “a measure I fully support.” Then, he explained how carrying out the production without being animated would have astronomical costs.
Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live-action version prohibitively expensive, with half the show taking place at sea and the need to create a different port each week, from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to… well , so on. There’s a whole world out there. And we have a much better chance of showing all of this with animation.
