Prime Video: the arrival of season 4 of True Detective is imminent

We are no longer present True detective. Created and written by Nic Pizzolatto, the series, which has aired on HBO since 2014, has received widespread praise for its storytelling, cinematic style and acting performances. An anthology genre, each season functions as an independent miniseries, with distinct characters and plotswhile maintaining a common theme of criminal investigation in an often dark and philosophical context.

The first season, broadcast in 2014, called the best, was set in Louisiana and followed detectives Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) over a period of 17 years, as they investigated a grisly ritual murder. In addition to a gripping plot, this season has explored in depth the complex psychologies of its main characters. Cary Joji Fukunaga’s production, particularly in a six-minute sequence shot in episode 4, was widely praised.

True detective it then continued with a second season which aired in 2015, with a new cast including Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn, set in California and focusing on political corruption and crimes. While this season attempted to recreate the magic of the first, it worked mixed reviews.

In 2019, the series returned to its original format, featuring a pair of detectives (played by Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff). Located in the Ozarks followed the investigations into the disappearance of two children in three different periods of time. This season was better received, with particular praise for the actors’ performances and the return to more coherent storytelling.

Four years later, True detective is finally preparing to make his return. In France the series will be available on Warner Pass, via Prime Video, from January 15th.

Excellent first returns

For this season 4, True detective returns to its original format, which is a couple of detectives. This time they are played by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. Titled Night country, takes place in Alaska. Eight men at the head of the Tsalal Arctic research station mysteriously disappear. To solve this case, detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to defeat their demons and probe the eternal ice in search of the deepest secrets.

The series, consisting of six episodes, received excellent first reviews, which portends a new season worthy of the first. Therefore, the overall rating currently stands at 100% positive reviews on the aggregator Rotten tomatoes. We can read like this:

Longtime fans won’t be disappointed, as the series stays true to what True Detective is all about.

Night Country is a continuation of its predecessors. Set during the endless night of the Arctic winter, it is dark in every way, both literally and metaphorically, and deals with a crime as shocking as any imagined in previous seasons.

This season restores faith in True Detective

The end result is an effective and impactful six-episode season that retains most of the excellent elements under Pizzolatto’s direction.
