From the beginning, the Prime Video series Ღ the skyAbout a couple whose home contains a mysterious portal into space might sound like a thriller. But this is to honor the relationship of creator Holden Miller’s grandparents.
“I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, who were in their 80s and had been married for over 60 years,” Miller said as he began writing the script in his spare time. “Observing their relationship has raised a lot of questions about topics like mortality, lasting love and the universe, and how we face them as we go through this phase of life.”
Miller began to formulate his ideas and his thoughts eventually turned into a pilot. She then went on a creative blind date with fellow writer/producer Daniel Connolly and Ღ the sky born. They include Hollywood veterans Sisi Spacek and JK Simmons, who never met before the show, to play a central couple inspired by Miller’s grandparents. “[This story] “It is told through the lens of a young man with great love, gratitude and admiration for his grandparents and the duration of their relationship,” Simmons said. “I think that perspective is much more valuable than what a kid my age wrote.
Four special creatives assembled virtually THR gifts A panel created by Vision Media to discuss how they created a slow-burning supernatural series that reveals the truth beyond the couples’ supernatural domestic bonds in eight episodes. “What surprised me about the pilot episode was the patience it expects and demands from the audience,” Simmons said. “I love a story that holds attention.” Spacek, for his part, noted that he was more interested in the relationship elements of the show than the genre: “I was in a long-term relationship, so I thought I would build on that and this is how it would go. The science fiction aspect is split.”
The scheduling conflict and subsequent redesign forced Simmons to come to the project at the last minute, reducing potential rehearsal time for both of them, leading to next to nothing. But Spacek describes a level of levity that is almost unfamiliar among the Costas. “We were both very satisfied with our working relationship,” he said.
Much of the show is based on the relationship between the two characters: how they drifted away from their community as a result of their home’s big secrets, and how they interact on a daily basis. But it’s also a show about outer space, which means a lot of green screens were in the works. “I started out as a stage actor, where you look at the audience and imagine you see something, and this is a set of similar instruments,” Simmons said. “We see a bracelet with a tennis ball or a green screen with some X’s.
