Netflix takes on a cult romantic drama
Netflix has a tendency to surprise its subscribers by regularly making unexpected announcements. The platform can reveal an ambitious project overnight. A bit of what happened recently with the online publication of the miniseries trailer. One daybased on the best-seller by David Nicholls published in 2011. A novel known for its first adaptation, into film, by Lone Scherfig and with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in the main roles.
In the film, we followed the complex friendship between Emma and Dexter. The peculiarity of the work is that we are shown one day of each year of their life. It all began on 15 July 1988 in Edinburgh, the date of their meeting and their “almost” first night together. They then decide to remain friends and we see their evolution for a period of 20 years.
Then one day he talks about friendship, love, but also about regrets and missed meetings. Because Emma and Dexter’s story is anything but happy. Between their unhappy marriages and the various trials of the life they will live, as well as their succession of reunions and separations. The result is a poignant romantic drama, which over time has become a cult.

A dream trailer for the One Day series
Netflix therefore decided to adapt David Nicholls’ work. The trailer begins about this quote: “How in the space of a handful of years, a complete stranger can become the most important person in your life?”. Which sums up Emma and Dexter’s relationship pretty well.
With the song in the background Dreams Blueberries, the promotional video exudes something joyful and everything seems to be going well between the two protagonists, at every meeting. An interesting musical choice because, as fans of Wong Kar-wai’s cinema, we naturally associate it Chungking Express, a perfect example of a romantic comedy about missed encounters. The rest of the trailer obviously proves this their feelings will be too strong but that they will spend their time repelling each other.

The miniseries One day it was directed by Molly Manners and she was given the roles of Emma and Dexter Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall. Finally, good news, you won’t have to wait too long to find out the result as the show will be put online on Netflix from February 8.
