Series Griselda it was shot in chronological order to allow Sofía Vergara to better understand the different aspects of this drug baroness’ life and her evolution. In the last episode, the latter is arrested in California and sentenced to ten years of criminal imprisonment. He is visited by his four children, to whom he promises that they will soon be reunited, as “a real family”.

But in the epilogue, which takes place seven years later, he learns that his three eldest children have been murdered. Then she dives back into one of her last memories with them, on the beach, shortly before his arrest. A sign then states only that she was murdered in 2012.

As for this last episode and the end of the series, Eric Newman, the creator of Griseldahe indicated that it was clear from the beginning that he wanted to end with the love this woman had for her children, and not with her own death:

It was important for us to show that this woman truly cared about her children. In our opinion, the greatest tragedy of her life was not her death years later, but rather the loss of what she had tried so hard to protect. In a way, she thought she was doing the right thing for her children. Everyone is the hero of their own story, and she had her reasons – not necessarily justifiable, but reasons nonetheless – for her actions. It is this loss, that of what she wanted to protect, that is the most painful.

How did the real Griselda Blanco die?

After being released from prison in 2004 and deported from the United States, Griselda Blanco returned to live in Colombia, Medellín, to be with her youngest son, Michael. She was murdered on September 3, 2012, while she was leaving a store. The assassination was carried out by men on a motorcycle, a method ironically popularized by Blanco herself when she ruled the drug trade.

The killer, a man armed with a motorcycle, shot him twice in the head, causing his instant death. His murder remains rather mysterious and his killer has never been found. According to some reports, Griselda Blanco was with her pregnant daughter-in-law at the time. The latter allegedly placed a Bible on her chest after her death.

Michael Corleone Blanco is the only one of Griselda Blanco’s four children to survive. He is the son of Griselda and her third husband, Darío Sepúlveda. Michael escaped the tragic fate of his older brothers, all of whom were involved in their mother’s criminal activities and all of whom met violent ends. Michael Corleone Blanco led a life different from his family and appeared on the VH1 reality series Cartel crew, dealing with surviving members of notorious drug cartels. He got married in 2021 and has several children with his wife Faith.
