The World After Us: Netflix’s Big Hit of 2023

Released last December, The world after us is a thriller directed by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) and adapted from Rumaan Alam’s 2020 bestseller of the same name. The story follows Amanda Sandford (Julia Roberts), her husband (Ethan Hawke) and her family, who plan a weekend getaway not far from New York.

Their stay is interrupted by a series of strange and disturbing events, such as the grounding of an oil tanker, a widespread power outage, and the unexpected arrival of two people (played by Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) who claim that the house for rent is theirs and that a cyber attack is underway in the country. As mistrust grows, the two families are forced to live together in the enormous house, while the situation outside becomes increasingly worrying.
