Forgotten in a room, 40 people were locked in the cinema

In Brazil, forgotten spectators at the cinema

Perhaps there are those who would dream of locking themselves in a shopping center to enjoy all the shops. A bit like inside A place to take (1991) with Jennifer Connelly. But it stays stuck in a movie theater it may be a less pleasant experience. This is exactly what happened 40 spectators who went to the cinema on January 28th Rio de Janeiro in Brazil discover Winter break by Alexander Payne. Paradoxically, the film is also (partly) about confinement, as we follow a history teacher forced to stay on the campus of a private high school to monitor residents who don’t attend Christmas break.

Except that, if the film tells this story in a comical way, for the spectators of the Botafogo neighborhood it was much less funny. As reported by the newspaper O Globe (through First), simply the employees of the Net Station cinema forgot a session was in progress with spectators inside. Thinking they were done for the day, they left, turning off the lights and closing the doors of the building. It was at the end of the film that audiences realized there was a problem. After the credits the lights never went back on and those present reunited blocked by the gates.

Present at the scene, Marcelo Alonso captured this moment and shared a video on Instagram. We see the spectators at the exit directly onto the street, with passers-by outside also surprised and amused by this situation.absurd“.

Closed in the Net Station cinema, in Botafogo! The staff turned off the lights and SHUT US OUT DURING THE MOVIE!!! Absurd!!! After screaming and calling the fire brigade, they took us out of the cinema.

“A big inconvenience” but “a wonderful film”

Following this incident, Adriana Rattes, the founding member of Grupo Estação, showed up his apologies on behalf of the group responsible for these cinemas. If the issue of refund was not raised, the manager said she wanted “offer kindness to the public“.

In addition to an apology, we want to try to offer something that is a kindness to the public, after such great inconvenience… We want to show that, yes, we are very concerned about what happened and that it shocked us.

Finally, in the audience was Ruth Kaufmann, a retired teacher with whom he shared his feelingsO Globe. But also his enthusiasm for Winter break :

It was as if we were orphans. What a tragedy, isn’t it? We were abandoned, desperate. After seeing the film (titled Rejection in Brazil, ed.), we too felt rejected. (…) But it’s a wonderful film. Not to be missed!
