Marvel Studios at the dawn of a new era?
In a world saturated with superheroes, Marvel Studios is preparing to make a significant strategic shift under the leadership of Disney CEO Bob Iger. After a period of frenetic production that saw Marvel expand its cinematic universe at an unprecedented pace, both in theaters and on Disney+, the studio now seems ready to adopt a new philosophy: favor quality over quantity. In any case, this is what Iger announced during a conference this Wednesday, February 7 to present the future of the studio (and make big announcements).
For the moment these are the next two blockbusters announced by the CEO of Disney Captain America: Brave New World AND Fantastic Fourwhich will both be released in 2025. Disney wants to focus on franchises with high potential, capable of fascinating the public and strengthening involvement with the Marvel Universe, rather than focusing on an endless supply of new films and new series introducing new characters. Let’s remember that the sequel to the adventures of Captain Marvel it was a resounding failure at the box office. Iger had previously spoken out about the studio producing “too many unnecessary sequels.”
The decision to slow the pace of production responds to growing criticism of “superhero fatigue” among audiences. By reducing the number of projects in development, Marvel seeks to ensure superior quality for each film and series, with the aim of creating more memorable and impactful works.
We remind you that in 2021 Marvel Studios released four films and five series on Disney+.
Anticipated films that will be overlooked?
While you design how Lightning or restarting Lama they were long awaited for 2025, Bob Iger provided no further information. Enough to raise concern among some fans, as the studio plans to slow down the pace. Are these films still relevant today? Doubt is allowed.
Bob Iger also did not communicate on the two upcoming Avengers films : The Kang DynastyAND Secret Warswhich are still two big projects for the studio.
Only one MCU film is planned for 2024: Deadpool 3next July.
