From Grace: what is the Arte series about?

This Thursday 8 February Arte will broadcast the first three episodes of its new series Of Grace (then the next three next Thursday). Created by Maxime Crupaux and Baptiste Fillon, is set in the world of the dockworkers of Le Havre, a world apart, in which the Leprieur family struggles with the torments of drug trafficking and buried secrets. This series that combines thriller and tragedy stars Olivier Gourmet, Margot Bancilhon, Panayotis Pascot, Pierre Lottin, Philippe Rebbot and Xavier Beauvois.

Within the Leprieur clan, led by the respected patriarch Pierre (played masterfully by Olivier Gourmet), tensions crystallize. If Pierre’s integrity has earned him the respect of his peers, his children find themselves involved in a drug deal that shakes the foundations of the family. As secrets from the past resurface and rivalries escalate, tragedy seems inevitable. Behind sprawling traffic lies a curse, that of this city and that of the Leprieur family.

Why shouldn’t you miss it?

In the heart of the bustling activity of the docks, the dockworkers of Le Havre appear insignificant in front of the imposing mass of containers. In this universe where the fragility of men is confronted the relentless mechanisms of globalizationthe creators of Of Grace they paint a picture of a modern tragedy. Over the course of the episodes, drug trafficking sneakily insinuates itself into the commercial flows, casting a harsh light on the colossal financial stakes and broken destinies.

In addition to breathtaking scenery enhanced by the direction of Vincent Maël Cardona (who won the César for best first work in 2021 with The magnetic ones Editor’s Note), Of Grace pays homage to the city of Le Havre, a port open to the world, but also marked by the stigma of globalization. Between the concrete of Auguste Perret, the chalk cliffs and the gray horizon of the English Channel, the city reveals itself as a character in its own right, condemned to the shadow of its prosperous port.

In this romantic fresco, realism mixes with symbolism, offering a touching reflection on human nature and its aspiration for saving grace, brought by an Olivier Gourmet to the pinnacle of his art.
