Mark Ruffalo, one of the six original Avengers of the MCU
After his first appearance as the Hulk in Avengers, Mark Ruffalo has become one of the major names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He established himself as well as one of the six main members of the superhero team alongside Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner. He has since appeared in four more Maison des Idées films, not including his various cameos and his roles in the series What if…? AND She Hulk.

But since his last major appearance at the cinema in the role of Bruce Banner, on the occasion ofAvengers: Endgame, the MCU has clearly lost its appeal. Many of his recent films have struggled to convince. For example, Thor: Love and Thunder, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania OR The wonders. AND Mark Ruffalo doesn’t know if the House of Ideas will ever be able to regain the success it once had.
The actor is not sure if Marvel will become so popular again
Ruffalo recently spoke in a long interview with the British version of GQ. When asked about the evolution of Marvel, he thought yes “Expanding with the series has been really exciting. » But he also explained that, in his opinion, no longer having to wait between a story concocted by Marvel was perhaps not a positive thing: “The problem with Marvel movies is that we had to wait three years and that created a sort of mystique around this universe. »
Ruffalo therefore believes that releasing many more projects – including films and series – in a short period of time has damaged the popularity of the MCU. He therefore welcomes Bob Iger’s recent decision to slow down for the next few years. However, the interpreter of Hulk I’m not sure this is enough to allow Marvel to regain the reputation the studio had a few years ago:
“These changes could be really positive. But will the MCU ever go back to what it was? I do not know. »
A success on the way, but also other flops?
In the same interview, Ruffalo also explained that he didn’t think he would get a solo Hulk movie. Because according to him a feature film like this would cost too much. As for his doubts about the future of the MCU more generally, it remains to be seen whether he was right. Marvel will undoubtedly be successful with many of their upcoming projects. Let’s think in particular about Deadpool and Wolverine, which will be released later this year and promises to be a success. But other films may fail.
Some of them are already going through turbulent development. This is the case of Lamawhich lost its director, underwent several rewrites and almost lost its lead actor, or also Captain America: Brave New World, which is not reassuring. We’ll see if Marvel can still correct the situation after Bob Iger’s decision to produce fewer projects to focus on their quality.
