Elijah Wood and Sean Astin, the Frodo and Sam of Lord of the Rings

The beginning of the 2000s was marked by the excellent trilogy The Lord of the Rings, directed by Peter Jackson. An ambitious adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s work, which has become an unrivaled reference in its genre. It must be said that the three films combined have brought in almost 3 billion dollars worldwide. Hard to beat.

We remember many cult moments from this saga. But the duo formed by Elijah Wood and Sean Astin as Frodo and Sam is probably one of the most memorable pieces of the trilogy. Today it is impossible not to associate actors with these characters. Remember that The Lord of the Rings, the two Hobbits set out on a dangerous mission. That of bringing the One Ring to Mordor to destroy it. Initially accompanied (by Peregrin, Meriadoc, Aragorn, Legolas or even Gimli), they will travel a long stretch of road in pairs, always with Gollum guiding them.

Meeting for a sketch at the SAG Awards

More than twenty years have passed and the iconic duo appeared together on stage again. It was on the occasion of the SAG Awards ceremony (Screen Actors Guild Awards) which was held on the night of Saturday 24 February in Los Angeles. Elijah Wood and Sean Astin were on hand to present the night’s first award. And they took the opportunity to offer a little sketch. It all started with a giant screen showing an excerpt from the 2004 ceremony, during which The return of the king (2003) won Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Ensemble. Sean Astin then thanked the team and mentioned the absence that night of Elijah Wood and Viggo Mortensen.

This time the interpreter of Frodo was able to go on stage together with his friend. The joke begins when the comedian pretends to discover that he has won the prize. Sean Astin would have forgotten to warn him, and above all he would have taken advantage of it resell his colleague’s price. Simple, fun and effective. The kind of sketch that is always a pleasure to see during these long ceremonies. Of note, the duo later presented the Best Supporting Actress award to Da’Vine for Joy Randolph Winter break.
