“Now it’s hard to come up with some funny answers,” Oliver said, referring to the Texas attorney general’s decision to close his offices on Friday afternoon and declare June 24 an annual holiday. “You don’t celebrate the loss of millions of human rights when you already have them and it’s called Día de la Raza,” Oliver said.
He also quoted former Vice President Mike Pence as saying, “Life won today.” Oliver said:[This] It is very difficult to consider that for some people, especially people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, forced pregnancy can be a death sentence. ”
He also abandoned the arguments of reversal advocates that adopting or having an abortion in the state in which it is permitted is a “reasonable” alternative.
“Even when the pregnancy is planned, the best-case scenario is a major medical event that opens up your buttocks, rips out your organs and inserts them incorrectly,” she said, adding, “The idea is that you can seek another abortion.” . . “You are being insulted by another state before you even think that some lawmakers are already openly looking for ways to punish abortions out of state.”
Oliver also argued that he would not return “in advanceroe Days,” as some have put it, but instead it’s really “uncharted territory,” as in states where abortion is now banned, any miscarriage can be investigated as a crime. This meant investigators could access electronic data, research histories, text messages and the like if they suspected someone had had an abortion, something that was clearly not available until the 1973 ruling.
“What the Supreme Court just did is completely disastrous,” Oliver said, adding, “The message the Supreme Court is sending is pretty clear: we don’t care if pregnancy kills you, we don’t care if it does. We want to be pregnant, we don’t care about you.”
He added that the response from pro-election politicians was disappointing, starting with asking supporters for donations and reading poems by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“When they drop, we ask for $15,” Oliver joked, quoting a famous quote from former first lady Michelle Obama at the 2016 Democratic convention.
