The Strangers: A Terrifying Home Invasion
In 2009, director Bryan Bertino directed the horror film Foreigners with Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. A particularly effective and chilling home invasion that chronicled the ordeal of a couple molested by strangers in their home.
The film tells the terrifying story of a young couple, Kristen McKay (Liv Tyler) and James Hoyt (Scott Speedman), who, after attending a wedding, retreat to a secluded vacation home. Their stay turns into a nightmare when they are confronted by three masked assailants who harass and terrorize them for no apparent reason.
Bryan Bertino draws inspiration from real events for his screenplay, including thefts in his childhood neighborhood and the Manson Family murders, to create an atmosphere of intense fear based on the implausibility and brutality of attacks by complete strangers.
The makeover is coming
In 2018, to everyone’s surprise, the sequel to the original film with the title was released Strangers: prey at night is coming to our screens. Directed by Johannes Roberts, the feature film was not a great success ($31 million at the global box office) but visibly pushes studios to want to exploit this franchise even more.
In fact, it will be released this year Foreigners: chapter 1the remake of the original film, starring Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) and Froy Gutierrez, reprising the roles previously played by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman (although the characters’ names have been changed).
The story remains the same, except this time the couple rented an Airbnb in Oregon to add a dose of modernity. The trailer of the film revealed a few days ago does not leave much hope: it is a simple copy/paste of Bryan Bertino’s film. It should still be able to attract a new generation of viewers even if it doesn’t offer original content.
There is no release date in France yet.
