Dune 2: This movie actor is “heartbroken”

Dune 2the place to be

For no actor, not having been chosen for casting Dune, part two, Denis Villeneuve’s global blockbuster, must be a huge disappointment. But there’s even worse: having been cast, having shot your scenes, and they disappear completely from the final cut… That’s what happened to at least two actors, Stephen Henderson and Tim Blake Nelson.

Stephen Henderson appeared in Dune of 2021 in the role of mentat Thufir Hawat. If fans of Frank Herbert’s work were eagerly awaiting his return in the second work, Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation chose to focus on the work Bene Gesseritthus excluding his character.

“I have a broken heart.”

As for Tim Blake Nelson, he was supposed to appear for the first time in Dune, part two. If his role has not been officially revealed, it is most likely that of Conte Hasimir Fenring, husband of Lady Fenring, played by Léa Seydoux. The actor, seen in particular with the Coen brothers and who alternates independent cinema and blockbusters, he became emotional on the MovieWeb microphone.

I don’t think I’m at liberty to say what scene it was. I leave it to Denis Villeneuve to discuss it. I had a lot of fun shooting this scene. But he had to cut it because the film was too long. I’m heartbroken, but there are no hard feelings. I really enjoyed shooting it, I can’t wait to do something else with Denis and we take this project very seriously.

A scene that will remain secret

As Denis Villeneuve indicated, it is very likely Dune 3 should give more space to the characters played by Florence Pugh and Léa Seydoux. And would it therefore be an opportunity to finally see Tim Blake Nelson in the role of Hasimir Fenring? Nothing is certain. And what it is is a disappointment to many fans: we will probably never see this scene cut Dune 2as Denis Villeneuve explained that he would not show what he had not kept in the final cut.

It’s a painful process, but it’s my job. The film comes first. I think I’m very strict in the editing room. I don’t think about my ego, I think about the film. (…) I honestly think that when he’s not in the film, he’s dead. I’m killing cherished moments and it’s painful.
