After Furies, the next French action series will surprise you

After Furiesplaced at Machine

With Furies (put online March 1), Netflix offered an action series Made in France extremely effective. Directed by Marina Foïs and Lina El Arabi, the show is not so much based on a coherent plot, but more on a universe John Wick with muscular, funny sequences and a good dose of humor. A combination that obviously convinced since the series is a success all over the world. But while waiting for a possible season 2, very soon we will be able to launch into another program, presumably of the same genre. This time it is on Art that you will have to go and discover Machinewhose tone is nothing short of surprising: In eastern France, a woman with a mysterious past meets a former drug addict turned Marxist he puts his knowledge of kung fu at the service of the workers’ struggle.

Created by Thomas Bidegain (Soudain alone) and Fred Grivois (Air resistance), Machine he will therefore mix the genres by proposing them action on a social issue. And this, not without a certain humor. It is enough to see this marginal, trained by the army, ready to fight in favor of the workers’ revolt samurai sword to understand the comedy of the series. The proof in images with the trailer (video in the article) broadcast by Arte.

Margot Bancilhon breaks faces on Arte

In the casting of Machinewe find Margot Bancilhon (Five, In Miami, Please), unrecognizable with his dreadlocks, his broken face and his tattooed back. The actress appears with a killer physique. His appearance, with his yellow tunic, therefore suggests a mix between the creature of Predator and the Bride of Kill Bill. Fred Grivois rightly explained in the press kit that he wanted to create “an iconic heroine” inspired by the “man with no name” that Clint Eastwood played in Sergio Leone’s westerns. Furthermore, according to the creator, the actress would have done herself the waterfalls (except for two shots), including a leap into the void in episode 5.

Alongside Margot Bancilhon we find Joey Starr in the role of the Marxist who fights for better working conditions inside the factory. Regarding this gap between social issues and kung fu, Fred Grivois added: “My belief is that nonviolence, unfortunately, does not make things happen. The series echoes this, as well as my savage taste for pop culture, reflected in the hip-hop soundtrack and the character of Machine, who seems like something out of a manga“. Also a way to deal with the humor of the series while remaining anchored to reality.

Machine promises a whole program that we can discover from April 4th on arte.tv and in classical broadcasting on Arte from April 11th. The first season consists of 6 episodes.
