Alien Romulus: Ridley Scott and James Cameron have very different opinions on the film

Romulus alien : James Cameron also saw the film

Be aware of Alien (1979), Ridley Scott launched one of the most famous horror sagas. A saga initially composed of four films, and with which it was relaunched Prometheus (2012), therefore Alien: Covenant (2017). Thereafter, although the new feature film Alien: Romulus was entrusted Fede Alvarez, the filmmaker, who is also a producer, obviously had his say on this topic. In any case he didn’t hesitate to tell the directorevil Dead, Don’t Breathe: The House of Darkness AND Millenium: What doesn’t kill mewhat he thought of this next workAlien. It was in October 2023 that Fede Álvarez affirmed this Ridley Scott found it “pretty damn good”.

But Ridley Scott isn’t the only one to have returned to directingAlien: Romulus. Fede Álvarez, who spoke, said it The Hollywood journalist, James CameronDirector ofAliens (1986) also gave him his opinion. And when James Cameron gives you advice, generally, you have to listen to it. Except the one between Ridley Scott and his dadAvatars, the feedback would be very different, even if positive.

What’s fascinating is that their comments on Alien: Romulus were very different. There were no duplicates in their notes. No matter what Ridley told me, Cameron gave me different advice. They were very intelligent comments, notes and thoughts on the film and the directing.

The influence of aliens

This feedback was obviously complementary and highly appreciated by Fede Álvarez, who therefore states that James Cameron also much loved Alien: Romulus. The latter also had a real influence on this new work, since the story imagined by Fede Álvarez would have come to him froma scene deleted fromAliens.

I remember watching an extended version of Aliens and there’s a moment where you see a group of kids running down the corridors of this colony. I thought, “What would it be like for these kids to grow up in a colony that still needs 50 years to terraform? There’s no sun, there’s no real life, and they find themselves having to take their parents’ place by doing the their own work.

From there, Fede Álvarez wondered what could happen to these kids who grow up and who, once they turn twenty, will find themselves facing the most dangerous creature in the universe.

The dynamic is completely different. Maybe that’s why we were able to make this film. When Ridley read the script, he thought it was different from other films. It had the DNA of the first films, but with something different and fresh, especially because children of that age deal with problems differently than adults and professionals. This is what offers a completely different viewing experience.

As a reminder, Alien: Romulus take place between the events of the first two films (almost 60 years separate the two plots). As we could see from the promising first trailer, a group of young people will have to survive different creators, starting with the scary one facehuggers. The cast is made up of Cailee SpaenyDavid Jonsson, Isabela Merced, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. And the film will be available on August 14th.
