A new movie Matrix in development
Stop or still? It will be again! Despite the financial failure of Matrix Resurrectionsreleased in 2021, Warner Bros. Pictures announced the start of construction on a fifth film of the great saga begun by the Wachowski sisters in 1999 with Matrixconsidered one of the greatest science fiction films of all time.

This fifth film will be the first not to be directed by a Wachowski (Lana Wachowski was alone in directing the work released in 2021, and with her sister in the first three films). In fact, he is the screenwriter and director Drew Goddard who will write and direct this new film. Drew Goddard is particularly known for writing the screenplays of Cloverfield, World War Z AND Alone on Mars. He also performed The cabin in the woods AND Bad times at the El Royale hotel, a film he also directed. Lana Wachowski is currently announced at executive production.
A reigning saga lover
As reported by VarietyDrew Goddard said:
It’s no exaggeration to say that the Matrix films changed cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly’s exquisite art inspires me every day, and my gratitude is overwhelming for the chance to develop stories in their world.
For its part, Warner Bros. has expressed through the words of president of production Jesse Ehrman that the new film will innovate without deviating too much from what has made the franchise successful so far. In four films, this one has racked up more than$1.8 billion of total revenue.
At the moment no details have been communicated about the story of this new film, nor about the potential casting. It is therefore impossible to know if Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return to their iconic roles Neo AND Trinityas with the latest film’s newcomers, including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff.
