Spider-Man can’t go home : a success in the world, and especially in France
For American blockbusters the most important market is obviously North America. This is where films generally earn the most revenue. However, France often is among the countries that generate the most these productions, behind China and the United Kingdom. This is the case, for example, of Dune 2, which sees France as the fifth largest market in the world at the time of writing. But even if the numbers of Denis Villeneuve’s film are impressive, it is nothing compared to a certain superhero film that landed in our theaters December 15, 2021.
It was in fact on this date that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) were able to discover it Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film follows Away from home (2019), which had already been one of Marvel’s biggest successes. In this new adventure, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) sees his identity revealed to the entire world. He then asks Doctor Strange for help so that he can make him forget this element. Only things won’t go as planned and a multiverse will be created. Thus, characters from other universes arrive in Parker’s world, such as Spider-Man played by Andrew Garfield and the one played by Tobey Maguire. And with them, all the antagonists they had faced in previous films.

Amazing figures
The meeting of all these mythical characters and the flood of fanservice the public was visibly convinced. Throughout its entire period of operation, Spider-Man: No Way Home has accumulated more than 7.3 million viewers in France. An impressive score that made it the MCU’s biggest hit, just ahead Avengers: Endgame and its 6.9 million entries. Better yet, it is currently the the most watched superhero film in France at the cinema. And at the time it had already left the competition far behind in 2021 Death can wait had accumulated “only” 4 million entries.
Abroad, Spider-Man: No Way Home obviously it was also a success. Which allowed the film to gather over $1.9 billion in revenue worldwide (also thanks to a fan who has seen the film 292 times). Or simply behind Avengers: Infinity War ($2 billion), and still quite far awayAvengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion). A figure that could have been even higher if the film had been released in China. This did not happen due to the censor board’s requests. Despite this, Spider-Man hasn’t been matched by another MCU film since.
