A brilliant horror trilogy from Ti West
Ti West surprised us very pleasantly in 2022 X, a horror film set in the late 1970s and which saw a porn film shoot turn into a massacre. The director thus paid homage to Chainsaw massacre (1982) while bringing something more, questioning the relationship with celebrity through its complex heroine. After that, the director went even harder Pearl (2023)a fascinating prequel still carried by the captivating My Gothic, which manages to transform itself with each film. This time, Ti West has also made a Hitchcockian psychological thriller terrified Martin Scorsese.
Ti West’s strength is in fact that of evolving within different horror subgenres in each film and appropriating them perfectly. And when we see the quality of the two films mentioned above, we will just have to wait impatiently MaXXXine, the third work of this horrible trilogy. Several elements have been revealed about this feature film. The director announced in particular that it would be abouta tribute to Dario Argento and the detective story genre, but also that Scream 3 for the sides slasher AND yellow. Which is pretty promising. But nothing beats a good trailer for creating hype. And what A24 has just revealed already gives us shivers!
The MaXXXine trailer
As we can see in this trailer (video in the article)we find Mia Goth in the role of Maxine, who after surviving the events in X, decided to leave the porn industry to become a star of the big screen. She is supposed to attract the attention of a director, played by Elizabeth Debicki. Except that a killer begins to roam the streets of Los Angeles. The night hunter, and several people from Maxine’s entourage will die. Which is why two detectives, played by Michelle Monaghan and Bobby Cannavale, will take an interest in the young woman.
The cast also includes Giancarlo Esposito, Kevin Bacon and Lily Collins MaXXXine which promises to conclude the Ti West trilogy in style. But above all we still remember Mia Goth who never ceases to amaze. The movie doesn’t no release date yet but we hope to be able to discover it in France. X was entitled to a theatrical release but in our opinion it was seen by too few spectators, while Pearl was released directly to DVD.
