Streaming Wars will have a new competitor next month.
TelevisaUnivision announces that it will launch the Spanish SVOD service ViX+ on July 21, initially in the US, Mexico and Latin America. The service costs US$6.99 a month in the US and MX$119 in Mexico.
The launch of SVOD is the culmination of a $4.8 billion merger between Televisa and Univision that closed earlier this year. The companies, led by Chief Executive Wade Davis and Chief Executive Alfonso de Angoitia, said after the deal was first announced a year ago that their final plan was to launch a global Spanish-language streaming service.
“While the streaming market is becoming increasingly polluted and competitive, we believe the Spanish-language streaming market is underdeveloped and the last major line of streaming capacity,” Davis said at the time.
Since then, the combined company has thrived, acquiring smaller streaming competitors and signing deals with talented players like Eugenio Derbez and Selena Gomez to run the service’s programming.
The company highlighted the service, which also features a level of advertising, earlier this year.
“ViX is not a reuse of our television offerings,” said Pierluigi Gazolo, president and chief transformation officer, TelevisaUnivision. “We have invested a significant amount of additional dollars in sports content and rights beyond our networks. This is more original content in Spain than any other, no matter what. ”
ViX+ will ship with over 10,000 hours of original and library content from the Univision Programming Foundation and Televisa. It will also feature 7,000 hours of live sports, including Liga MX and UEFA Champions League football.

The movies will also be available once they are released and next week. Mirreyes vs. Godinez 2, “El Retiro” (Mireis vs Godines 2 “Retreat”), a sequel to the popular 2019 film, and sick love (Love Sick).
