The Three Musketeers: A French XXL Epic
The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan released in April 2023, and its sequel, The Three Musketeers: Milady, released in theaters in December of the same year, was a great success at the box office. For a budget estimated at 70 million euros, the two films attracted more than five million spectators to the cinema.
Adapted from the work of Alexandre Dumas, this diptych of adventures presents a new version of the famous story of D’Artagnan and the Musketeers, across two epic feature films, directed by Martin Bourboulon and more action-focused than previous adaptations.
As the name suggests, the first film dealt with the arrival of D’Artagnan (François Civil) in Paris and his encounter with the Musketeers (played by Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris and Pio Marmaï), while the second was more focused on the past Milady’s (Eva Green) troubled relationship with Athos.
Good news for the third film?
The end of the second film featured a fiery face-to-face between D’Artagnan and Milady, while the former had just lost his lover, Constance Bonacieux (Lyna Khoudri), hanged by the Duke of Buckingham, following yet another of Milady’s plans.
Against all odds, the latter managed to survive the duel, and the last minutes of the film brought us to Athos’ house, when he discovered that Milady had kidnapped their son. This cliffhanger then made us promise a sequel, dedicated to Athos, who will have to find Milady. But until now no news of a sequel had leaked out.
However, the producer of the saga, Dimitri Rassam, has just dropped a message of hope! In fact, responding to an Internet user who asked him about the possibility of a third film, the producer declared that “we are working on it”.

This third film The Three Musketeers, which was conditioned by the results of the first two parts, is apparently in pre-production! Four months after the release of Milady, This is the first good news which was revealed by Dimitri Rassam. A formalization by Pathé should therefore not take long.
While waiting to discover this third part, we will be able to rediscover the world of Alexandre Dumas on June 28th with The Count of Monte Cristoworn by Pierre Niney.
