At the cinema, the pleasant surprise of the end of 2023 came from a low-budget French genre film entitled Parasites. Parasites caused a sensation in the United States after a preview at Fantastic Fest in Austin, before arriving in our theaters. We therefore supported Sébastien Vaniček’s proposal, which he also revealed to us design secrets of his film during an interview. But after having made a good impression in France (a good score at the box office with more than 268,000 admissions), Parasites returned to America for a release on the Shudder platform, which specializes in horror cinema. The opportunity for the feature film to reach a new audience, like the famous one Stephen King.

The author, who knows a little about genre films, praised it Parasites after seeing it. On his X (formerly Twitter) account, the novelist wrote: “Pests: Spiders, some as big as dogs, invade a building in France. Scary, disgusting, well done“.

Sébastien Vaniček conquers America

There is no doubt that Sébastien Vaniček will appreciate this short and concrete comment from the king of horror to whom we owe, among other things, That, Carrie, Shining OR Misery. The French director is clearly popular abroad after this message from Stephen King onwards Parasites follows the recent announcement of Sébastien Vaniček’s next ambitious project. The latter also convinced Sam Raimi and the producers of the saga evil Dead to entrust him with the production of an upcoming spin-off.

While few details about this project have been revealed for now, we know it should bea closed session with a French character surrounded by Americans. Furthermore, Sébastien Vaniček would have it as a reference for his film Aliens (1986) by James Cameron.
