Anthracite: Netflix’s great French success
After the action series Furies Here’s now with a great success on the international stage a few months ago, there’s another French Netflix production here at the world-wide public’s favorites where you’ll find it online if you’re looking for a month: the investigative series Anthracite.
Available on the platform from April 10, this series created by Fanny Robert takes us into the mysteries of the Écrins sect, responsible for the death of many of its members in the 1990s. Thirty years after this tragedy which has left the inhabitants of the region bruised, a new murder awakens dark memories in the small fictional town of Levionna.
Camille Lou plays a young police officer determined to prove that the cult is still active. She is assisted by an amateur detective, played by Noémie Schmidt, who is looking for her missing father, and by a repentant young man, played by Hatik, who has become the main suspect in the crime. Together, they dig long hidden truthsnavigating between legends and current threats.
The beautiful figures from the series around the world
The multiple twists and turns throughout the series’ six episodes kept viewers on the edge of their seats. In France, Anthracite it hasn’t left the Top 10 since it went online (it’s currently in fifth place).

And worldwide the success is equally notable, given that the French series is still present in Netflix’s global Top 10 of the most watched non-English-speaking series on the platform.
In three weeks (we are still waiting for the data from the first week of May), Anthracite it was so seen over 58 million hours. For comparison, Furies ended its run with more than 110 million hours viewed in six weeks (it was at 84 million in three weeks). Success for Anthracite therefore appears to be lower than that of Furiesbut its longevity in the global Top 10 is still to be welcomed.
