According to the author, who is a fan of Netflix’s latest release, the series’ story is quite similar to that of Misery: Crazy Obsession, released in 1987.
Admitted fan of Baby Reindeer (Baby Reindeer), Netflix’s new hit series, Stephen Kingbelieves that the production has similarities with one of his novels, Misery: Crazy Obsessionreleased in 1987. In a text published in Times, the author was grateful for coming up with the idea before or he would be accused of stealing the idea from Richard Gaddcreator, screenwriter, producer and protagonist of the novelty.
“My first thought was to thank God that my novel had come out first, or people would assume I had stolen it from Richard Gadd”declared in a text published by The Times [via Forbes].
In Misery: Crazy Obsession, the path of a retired nurse, fan of Misery Chastain’s novels, crosses that of the author of the book series when he has an accident in a blizzard. She rescues him and locks him in a room in her house, torturing and threatening him so that the author will rewrite the ending of the last book in the series, which she did not like.
In the publication, King still praised Baby Reindeer: “Unlike most episodes of streaming series, which can feel bloated at 50 minutes — or even longer — episodes of Baby Reindeereach lasting around 30 minutes, are like short, quick jabs administered by a very sharp knife”defined.
“With less than two minutes of the first episode, we can see what differentiates Baby Reindeer of so many dramas, dramedies and psychodramas, which populate the occasional richness (and the more common mediocrity) of streaming TV”continued King.
“We get the essential nature of two main characters in less than two minutes. Both are psychologically lacking, but it’s Martha who is mentally unstable and manipulative. However, Donny — despite his wide, hopeful eyes, which continually say, ‘Don’t hurt me’ — he has the unusual and quite heroic ability to see inside himself.”analyzed the author.
In Baby Reindeer, Gadd plays the comedian Donny Dunn – a version of himself – who is desperate to fulfill his dream of making a living from his art. However, while that doesn’t happen, he works as a bartender in a London bar.
On what seemed like another ordinary day, Martha (Jessica Gunning) enters the establishment. Dunn He asks her what she would like to drink, but the woman, who introduces herself as a lawyer with great personalities, says she has no money. Compassionate the bartender offers a complimentary cup of tea, unaware that he was beginning a disturbing relationship with the woman. Watch the trailer:
