The mazeAfter Alien AND The Planet of the Apes
20th Century Studios is determined to revive all of its franchises. WhileAlien: Romulus will be released this summer, seven years after the previous film, the same amount of time separates Planet of the Apes: Supremacy (2017) e Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom, which will be released in French cinemas on May 8. Two films considered sequels (Alien: Romulus will take place between the first two works). A strategy that will now be applied the saga The mazeas a new movie was just announced, while The Labyrinth: The Deadly Cure, the last part of the trilogy dates back to 2018.
Let’s remember that the three films adapt the literary cycle The ordeal by James Dashner. Before tackling Planet of the Apes: SupremacyWes Ball directed this trilogy with, in the main roles, Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. The story is full of twists and turns, but sees a group of young people subjected to dangerous trials in an attempt to develop a cure for a virus that has decimated the world’s population.
A reboot by the screenwriter of Transcendence
Made with modest budgets ($35 million for the first film, then $60 million for the other two), the trilogy The maze was moderately successful, grossing nearly $1 billion in total worldwide. Disney, through its subsidiary 20th Century Studios, therefore decided to relaunch the machine by placing orders a new derivative of James Dashner’s work. Second The Hollywood journalistJack Paglen, screenwriter of Transcendence (2014), was reportedly contacted to write the next film. The American media specify that the producers of the trilogy will return, with Wes Ball this time only as producer.
There’s no word yet on who will direct this film, but The Hollywood Reporter breaks it down this reboot should use the same principle as for Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom. That is to say a story that will unfold in the same universe compared to previous feature films, but good after the events already described. We can therefore expect a new story with new characters. Remember that James Dashner wrote two novels set before The maze (The order to kill AND Brace). But 20th Century Studios obviously preferred to imagine the consequences of the adventures of Thomas, holder of the cure.
