John Wick: a franchise that continues to grow
In 2014, who would have thought John Wicka nice B series with Keanu Reeves Would Seeking Vengeance, produced for $20 million, generate such a profitable franchise? Probably not many people. But Chad Stahelski and David Leitch found a good recipe to attract audiences and developed it three more films. The last one, John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), which reported more than 427 million dollars worldwide, was supposed to be Keanu Reeves’ farewell as the former hitman. But since then, Chad Stahelski has been optimistic about the actor’s possible return.
In any case, the franchise does not intend to stop here. At the end of 2023 the public was able to discover a first spin-off with series The continental (available on Prime Video) which traces the youth of Winston (played by Ian McShane in the films). Then there will be the film Dancerbased on a dancing character who surreptitiously appeared in John Wick: Parabellum (2019). A feature film brought forward by Ana de Armas and which unfortunately has been postponed by a year, to June 6, 2025. And, obviously, Lionsgate (the studio that owns the rights to John Wick) will not be satisfied with this given thatanother spin-off movie has just been announced.
Donnie Yen returns in a Caine spin-off
We learn from Expiration with which Lionsgate would reach an agreement Donnie Yen for him to reprise his role as Caine. A blind killer who faced John in the last episode. Therefore, we shouldn’t see this spin-off until 2026. Logical given this Dancer will arrive in theaters in 2025. Finally, the film with Donnie Yen should not be a prequel, but will allow continues Caine’s story arc after the events of John Wick 4and after being released from his obligations to the Great Table.
