19 million spectators in France: this huge audience success returns to cinemas in July



Intouchables: unrivaled success since 2011

Untouchable, directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, released in 2011, quickly became a cultural phenomenon in France and internationally. The film tells the moving story of the relationship between Philippe, a rich aristocrat who becomes quadriplegic after a paragliding accident, and Driss, a young man of Senegalese origin released from prison who becomes his domestic help.

The film was an exceptional success at the box office, attracting more than 19 million spectators in France. the third biggest hit of all time at the French box officebehind Titanic AND Welcome to the Ch’ti. Since 2011, no film has managed to top it. All over the world, Untouchable generated revenue of over $426 million, one of the biggest French hits of all time. The film was nominated nine times for the César and Omar Sy won the statuette as best actor.

The film will be released in theaters on July 31st

The film is based on a true story, that of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and Abdel Sellou, whose memories inspired the screenplay. The plot focuses on unlikely and touching relationship between Philippe, a quadriplegic aristocrat, and Driss, a young man from the suburbs with a troubled past. Philippe, played by François Cluzet, is depressed and disillusioned after the accident, while Driss, played by Omar Sy, brings pure energy and refreshing frankness to Philippe’s bourgeois life.

The film explores how this friendship transforms their respective lives. Driss, with his humor and direct approach, helps Philippe rediscover the zest for life, while Philippe offers Driss the chance to rehabilitate himself and find new meaning in his life.

On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which will begin on 26 July, Gaumont has decided to bring out Untouchable in the rooms original release with English subtitles on July 31stfor all tourists who will pass through France on the occasion of this great sporting event.
