One of the most striking episodes of the book Fire & Blood, which inspired the series derived from Game of Thrones, would not have had the same impact on the adaptation
The House of the Dragon (2022- ), series derived from game of Thrones(2011-2019), returned last Sunday (16) with the episodes of its 2nd season and, in the first chapter, called “A Son for a Son”, brought one of the most anticipated sequels by fans. However, she was not as pleased as expected.
Warning: the following text contains spoilers for season 2 of The House of the Dragon!
In the debut chapter of the new season, we saw the revenge of Daemon Targaryen (Matt SmithDoctor Who) for the death of his stepson, Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault). In the story, he hires the assassins Blood (Sam C. Wilson, Dodger) It is Cheese (Mark Stobbart, The Long Shadow) to kill one of the king’s sons Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney, Tolkien).
In the book, they force the queen Helena (Phia Saban, The Last Kingdom) to choose one of his twin sons, Jaehaerys It is Maelor, to die. Then they take the life of Jaehaerys. The sequence was quite similar in the series, but fans claimed that it was much more impactful due to the words of George R. R. Martin. Check out the reactions:
They destroyed blood and cheese because Helaena simply handed over her son without 1 reaction, without 1 feeling, rubbish. They exchanged the shock of the child’s death for Alicent sitting on Cole so congratulated pic.twitter.com/IVv2M7iGgD

blood and cheese:
– Daemon actually asks for Aemond and not one of the children, but it’s still open
– Phia was impeccable but the SCRIPT totally nerfed the event, it was harrowing with the sawing and her running away with her daughter but the rest was so dull, it seemed simple pic.twitter.com/siMY5ieiuw— Visenya (@jeantargaryen) June 17, 2024
The impact of Blood and Cheese on the book was MUCH greater, like pic.twitter.com/ad0lMEWMsv

two years waiting for the Blood and Cheese scene for the most shocking scene to be the guy kicking a dog #HouseoftheDragonpic.twitter.com/y3dz56vbBb

It may be a bit nostalgic, but I was expecting something similar to the scene where Robert’s bastards are killed. There is no exaggerated violence, it does not show the baby being killed, but it is still shocking and uncomfortable, a very well constructed scene. I didn’t feel that with blood and cheese. pic.twitter.com/sEVJ5jI851

This image from the book has more emotion than the entire blood and cheese scene in the series pic.twitter.com/2sNE3u3UOh
