Kate Winslet hated filming a famous scene from Titanic

Titanic : Still the King of the World

James Cameron has been for 40 years one of the masters of the box office. Therefore, we can no longer count his cult features that have sold out: Terminator, Terminator 2: Rise of the Machines, Avatar, Avatar: Waterway…and obviously Titanic. The film is still considered one of the greatest films in cinema history, all generations combined. As a reminder (in case some have spent the last 20 years in a cave), Titanic tells an imaginary love story experienced by two passengers of the famous British ocean liner that sank in 1912 in the Atlantic Ocean.

$2.2 billion, 11 Oscar nominations : These are the crazy numbers generated by Titanic. The feature film directed by James Cameron also allowed the definitive affirmation of two talented young actors: Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

An iconic kiss… Not so iconic

How can we forget this love story between the poor artist Jack Dawson and the rich bourgeois Rose Calvert? Beyond Titanic’s impressive special effects, it is above all their story that has attracted the attention of all those who followed the film. The pinnacle of their relationship comes to a head during their first kiss on the front of the cover.

If Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet share a sincere and deep friendship for years, we could say that their complicity during the film’s intimate scenes went off without a hitch. However, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actress revealed a completely different truth. So, the cult kiss of Titanic It was harder to make than you might think:

We kept having this kiss and I had a lot of light makeup on. I had to check both of their makeup between takes and I ended up looking like I ate a caramel candy bar after every take because her makeup bled onto mine.

In addition to the laughter between the two actors (which therefore required several takes), Kate Winslet also had to deal with a very limited space :

We were shooting in a part of the ship that wasn’t part of the usual set. We had to climb a ladder to get there.

This did not come without clashes as the actress of Titanic he hit his knee on the ship’s railing. It’s not so romantic to kiss Leonardo DiCaprio in these conditions.
